The Evolving Internet
This report includes an analysis of the driving forces behind the Internet and the key uncertainties surrounding it as well as four scenarios regarding its possible development until 2025. The objective is to contribute to the current debate on how to exploit the Internet's great potential for economic and social development throughout the world. We are in the year 2025. Let us imagine that the Internet is a launching pad for a new wave of global prosperity. It has become an integral part of the lives and opportunities of those who live in places as spread out as the periphery of the city of Mexico or rural areas of Sri Lanka, just as it did a long time ago for the inhabitants of central Tokyo, New York and London. A vast array of applications that respond to the needs and demands of the majority of the world's population and businesses of all types and sizes is also available. Or maybe not.
