The Debate on Privacy and Security Over the Network: Regulation and Markets

The technological developments of the last decade have increased the capacity to collect, use and store personal data in an open and inclusive environment where territorial boundaries and the legal systems governing privacy are blurred. This has led to an important debate on the future development of the Internet ecosystem and the digital economy which calls for greater regulatory harmonisation. Within the EU, this need is embodied in the draft Regulation by the European Commission of 2012, which poses new challenges in relation to the rest of the geographical and economic areas in a market that is set to be wholly global.

Using the contributions of the most renowned experts from the academic and business worlds who have participated in this debate, both in the U.S. and Europe, it discusses their origins, evolution and perspectives. It is without doubt a highly interesting book that features various points of view on the very controversial issue of web neutrality.
