Smart Energy. ICT and Energy: an Efficient Future
One of the key aspects necessary for a society to develop is the existence of an efficient energy system that ensures the supply of energy at reasonable prices, and facilitates economic activity and growth. During the last century, several factors, such as the planet's population growth, sustained economic growth and the scarcity of fossil fuels have subjected this system to a number of tensions that have been converted into economic crises and even conflicts among nations.
The importance of this issue has led to a search for solutions, such as improved fuel efficiency and the development of a great range of technologies that allow energy to be harvested from the environment, or what we call renewable energy. All this has meant a lifeline that has allowed us to stretch the current model further, although we are starting to see a consensus that this will not be enough to keep up with activity growth around the world, especially in the countries of East Asia.
