Journalists at a Crossroads
Journalism is at one of the most critical crossroads in its history. The overall economic and political crisis being suffered by the West has been accompanied by a genuine crisis for journalism, a profession that has been shaken by the digital tsunami more than any other,, since it cannot sustain its role as intermediator and gatekeeper, nor as the guarantor of the freedom of expression, nor as a control on the government or the established power bases.
This book is the result of a research project by the PASSET group (Journalism and Social Analysis: Evolution, Effects and Trends from its Spanish initials) from the Carlos III University, whose authors have focused on how the journalism trade is allegedly disappearing and losing credibility now that anyone can disclose information, access sources, show images and videos on the Internet and exponentially expand their communication possibilities.
