ICTs in Combating Unattended Diseases: a Latin American View

There are solid reasons to be optimistic about the research that is underway on unattended illnesses. In this book, which sets out the results of the work of Latin American researchers, several positive aspects are confirmed. The first is that in the field of basic research, considerable attention is paid to illnesses that largely affect the most vulnerable population on the continent. Secondly, information and communication technologies (ICTs) support the developments that will lead to breakthroughs in different areas of research. And thirdly, and very importantly, the science carried out in the region produces state-of-the-art results in this field of knowledge. Making the information collected in this study available to those dealing with such matters is Fundación Telefónica’s way of ensuring that this optimism will turn into substantial benefits, and our way of reiterating the confidence we have in the advantages of associating ICTs with basic science.
