ICT in the Justice of the Future
Justice is one of the sectors of the Administration that faces a great number of challenges, deriving from the increasing complexity of the Spanish society and its own organisation. However, since it is an area which involves a great density of information, it is one of those sectors which can most benefit from the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). Justice in Spain may undergo a major leap forward when the three basic processes of this transformation are set in motion: technological, organisational and cultural changes. These three changes are essential to achieve an efficient use of the new technologies. There are also three principal agents working to boost this new Justice: the Ministry of Justice, the General Council of the Judiciary and the Autonomous Communities. They all understand the importance of the use of ICT and there is a wide consensus of opinion as regards modernising Justice, based on two fundamental elements: the new judicial office and the electronic case file.
