ICT and Personal Health

In all societies, medicine, or in broader terms, healthcare, is considered one of the main foundations of well-being and development, to which considerable resources and budgeting are often devoted. Over the years, the health system has changed along with society, serving as a good reflection of the economic and social level of each country, in each period of time.

This has also been a field that that has been very prone to employing technological advances, and during the 20th century we saw various branches of chemistry, physics and engineering come together to design treatments for different diseases and ailments.

In recent years, ICT has also had an impact on the world of medicine with a very wide range of applications. This monograph shows a number of examples of ICT-related services and innovations that are currently functioning in the different phases of therapeutic treatment: monitoring, diagnosis, treatment and follow up. Given the broad scope of the topic at hand and the need for the involvement of various groups and institutions to turn it into a reality, a think tank was set up among pertinent personalities with different profiles. Their transcript, which is included in the last chapter of the monograph, is a contribution of great importance.
